What are Some Tips for Safe Driving Habits?
Minimize distractions: Keep your eyes and focus on the road. Even the slightest engagement in another activity while driving can lead to dangerous consequences. Avoid talking on your cell phone, texting, changing radio stations, putting on makeup or taking a bite of that burger.
Road Conditions Matter: Be aware of your surroundings and the current conditions of the road on which you are driving. Ice, snow, fog, rain, potholes – all of these conditions require extra caution and slower speeds.
Follow at a safe distance: Sudden stops are a common occurrence, especially on the highway, Whether it’s caused by backed up traffic, an accident, or an animal jumping into the road, maintaining a safe distance between your car and others around can make a huge difference. Maintain at least one car length of space between your car and the vehicle in front of you for every 10 mph of speed.
Keep your cool: Take a deep breath and avoid road rage. Plan ahead to reduce stress by allowing plenty of time to travel and avoiding congested roads. Don’t get heated or challenge aggressive drivers, it is best to stay as far away from them as possible.
Maintenance matters: Safety also relies on up-to-date maintenance of your car. Make sure that your car brakes, exhaust, tires, lights and signals, battery and hoses are working perfectly. If you have any questions about your car or need precautionary maintenance, take your car to your local Colorado auto repair service. Don’t wait for something to break down, make an appointment today!
