Hello and welcome to today’s episode. Today we’re going to be showing you how to check your vehicle’s wipers, how to select and buy the right kind of wipers for your vehicle and how to install those wipers. So, let’s go check some wipers.

Wiper blades mostly fail because of the deformations on the rubber surface of the blade itself. This is a brand new blade and as you can see, it’s smooth and deformation-free. On the other hand, most wipers fail because of really small deformations on the surface of the blade, such as the one on this blade here. This is what you need to look out for when checking your wiper blades.

Wiper blades are sold based on the length of the entire wiper blade itself. You can either measure the wiper blade on your vehicle or you can consult your local parts store to find the right wiper blade for your vehicle.

One of the things to pay attention to, though, is that driver and passenger side lengths might be different. So, make sure to either measure both sides or consult your parts store to find the right size for both sides.

The first type of wiper blade arm we’re going to work on is the hook type wiper blade arm. This type of wiper arm has a locking tab that keeps the wiper arm connected to the wiper blade. To remove the wiper blade, rotate it, press down on the tab, push down firmly on the wiper blade until the lock disengages. Now it should be fairly easy to unhook the wiper blade from the wiper arm.

To install a brand new wiper blade, slide the wiper arm hook around the wiper blade fitting, pull up firmly until you hear a click, and this should complete your installation.

The next type of wiper arm we’re going to be working on is the pin type wiper arm. To remove the wiper blade from the wiper arm you need to disengage the lock by pulling the tab up and then pulling the pin out of the hole on the side of the wiper blade.

To install the brand new wiper blade, pull the black tab up slightly, then insert the wiper arm pin into the wiper blade and push down firmly on the black tab until it clicks securely into place. Your wiper blades are now installed.
