Should You Get a Manual or Automatic Transmission? – INFOGRAPHIC

What Should I Consider?

It is that time again. Your old car is on its way out and you are on the hunt for the right car to fit your needs. Unlike last time, you have multiple resources helping you make an informed decision. Rather than waste your money on the latest and greatest, you’re busy with price comparisons, negotiations, scheduled test drives, and much more. Aside from car make, model, and price, there is another overlooked factor when it comes to buying a new car, and that is the feel. Most people tend to forget that the overall “drive” and the experience you have while behind the steering wheel is a major factor.

While it may seem like a non-issue, but it absolutely affects your day-to-day drive. While some consumers may have the attitude that a car’s purpose is simply to transport yourself from point A to point B, there is an underlying meta beneath all of this. Why else would you justify spending a good amount of money towards a new car unless you weren’t excited about the way you feel when in command?

When it comes to buying a new car the ultimate dilemma isn’t the price. Instead, it is whether or not you should get an automatic transmission or manual transmission. Though you may not consider this to be important, there are several big questions you should ask yourself before making a decision. Perhaps the most important question you should be asking yourself is: Why does the type of transmission matter?

Why Automatics?

Simple, quick, and easy. Automatic transmissions allow you to focus on other areas of importance. While some argue that it “oversimplifies” the driving process, many find it to be useful. More and more of the population prefer this transmission layout and carmakers have taken notice Recently, a vast majority of car manufacturers have upgraded their automatic transmissions. Most newer models have become more fuel-efficient, are computer-powered, are fitted with dual settings, have seamless gear transitions, feature semi-manual sport modes, and much more. As technology advances, so have our cars. Long gone are the days of slow response times between the pedal and your throttle. Automatics have captured the hearts and market share of many drivers around the globe because of these newer innovations. Even though the automatic transmission is dominating the world one car at a time, we all have to sit back and wonder: What’s next?

Why Manuals?

The classic manual transmission will never go out of style. While the demand for automatic and variable transmissions have slowly dwindled the number of newer manuals in the market, there will always be a select few who will drive nothing less. For those few, we know who you are. You don’t care about “easy-driving” rather you’re all about mastery of your skill. The sweet synchronization and “feel” of the clutch and gas are what propels you forward and you love it. You live for it. The thrill of shifting into various gears is what you prefer and is truly unique to your car. You’ll cherish it till the end.
