Signs Your Transmission Might Fail
Over many years of operation, your car’s transmission is put under a lot of stress, wear, and tear. Even though your transmission is designed to withstand a good amount of punishment, it also has a limit. There are obvious and clear signs where you can see that your car is not operating as smoothly as you’re used to. While it’s difficult to determine the signs of the problem or much less pinpoint the problem itself, It’s also just as easy to ignore the warning signs. However, if you know what to look for, it can mean the difference between a transmission repair or a complete transmission replacement.

Transmission Tips from AAMCO
One of the many ways that AAMCO certified technicians can diagnose a lot of transmission problems is by looking at the level and quality of your transmission fluid. Here are some tips from the pros at AAMCO.
You can learn a lot by looking at your car’s transmission fluid in your own garage or driveway.
If you see low fluid levels, you may have a leak. See your local AAMCO dealer for our Transmission Vehicle Courtesy Check and identify any small leak before it becomes a big headache.
The color and condition of your transmission fluid can help you determine if you have a transmission problem:
- Normal fluid is reddish-brown and translucent, with no particular odor.
- The contaminated fluid has water or particles in the fluid.
- Burnt fluid may indicate damage from overheating.
- Varnished fluid may have been overheated repeatedly.
If you notice burned or black fluid, or water or particles in your transmission fluid, bring your car into AAMCO immediately. We can diagnose your transmission problem before a major breakdown or before it costs a lot more money to repair.

I do like that you remind readers to check on the transmission fluid level in your infographic. After all, there are some car owners who might not even be aware that their transmission has fluids associated with it. However, it is important to get these fluids exchanged on a regular basis in order to keep your transmission at peak operating efficiency.
