1. Smooth Driving and Proper Braking Technique
Braking at high speeds places unnecessary strain on your brakes. When this happens, you will be stepping on the gas for a prolonged period and moving too fast. Slowing down and braking softly will ease the strain on your brakes, resulting in a smoother ride and less wear and tear on your braking system.
When stopping at lights and intersections, it’s better to come to a complete halt instead of allowing your wheels to inch forward. The wheel creep results in unnecessary friction; stopping the car causes less wear to the braking system. It’s also important that you use only one foot for braking and gas. Applying pressure to both pedals simultaneously is not only unnecessary but also causes excessive wear to your brakes.
2. Brake System Flush
Brake fluid is essential for the functioning of your vehicle’s braking system. When you step on the brake pedal, the brake fluid causes brake pads to compress against the rotors, causing the car to slow down and eventually stop. With time brake fluid will absorb air, dirt, moisture, and other contaminants.
The air in brake fluid results in a spongy feel when braking, significantly reducing braking efficiency. A brake system flush expels fluid and moisture and replenishes the system with clean fluid. This flush ensures the optimal performance of the braking system and increases the lifespan of the braking system components.

3. Lighten The Load
Overloading causes excessive wear to your braking system. The reason being, the heavier your vehicle is, the harder the brakes have to work to bring the car to a halt. Don’t carry excessive passengers or unnecessary luggage to avoid taking on more weight than your vehicle can safely handle.
You should also consider the weight of any aftermarket components you want to install. This is because they might be much heavier than OEM components.
Remember, the lighter your vehicle, the easier it will be on your braking system, gas tank, tires, and wallet.
Want Your Brakes To Last Longer?
Remember, when it comes to some brake problems, only a professional eye can catch them. To ensure that you always have a safe and efficient braking system, the importance of having your car inspected regularly cannot be overemphasized. Ensure your entire braking system is inspected and maintained regularly. This not only involves the brake pads and rotors but also having the brake lines checked and having a full flush done periodically to get rid of any build-up.’
Regular brake maintenance at AAMCO Colorado can reveal minor brake repair issues before they escalate to major problems that would be more costly to repair. We recommend that you schedule an appointment with us whenever you notice a change with your braking performance, no matter when your next inspection is due. Remember, a good braking system not only improves the performance of your car but also guarantees your safety.
