Engine Repair Services FAQ
Q: What can AAMCO do for my engine?
A: While transmissions may be our specialty, our master mechanics are trained to service, maintain, and repair every mechanical component to your vehicle. Your engine is directly related to your transmission and is critical to your functionality. Not only will we assist you with your oils, but check your gaskets, address any check engine issues, and provide the right tune-ups for you.
Q: Should I replace or repair my engine?
A: The choice to repair or replace your engine solely depends on the amount of wear and tear on your vehicle’s engine. After completing a diagnostic, our trusted technicians will recommend the best course of action for your specific situation. The cost of repairing small parts of your engine could essentially outweigh the cost of replacing your engine. However, that may not always be the case. Our best recommendation is to first get a diagnostic and work from there.
Q: My check engine light is on. What should I do?
A: If you are seeing your check engine pop up, we strongly urge you to not continue driving. While your car may function and you may believe that your vehicle is fine, you risk causing further damage to your car. Your vehicle’s engine’s emissions and performance are maintained and gauged by the sensors and computerized components in the car. We’ll do a thorough review of all major systems in your car to check that you are completely up to date on recommended factory maintenance and your car is safe and efficient. We identify any issues and recommend the necessary repairs, but we don’t do any work without your approval.
Q: Is it possible for my engine to overheat?
A: It is possible for your engine to overheat if you push it to its limits. Often, your car will warn you and provide you with clear signs of overheating. Should you see your engine light pop up, see your temperature gauge fluctuating, or notice a loss in power, we strongly urge you to get the help of a professional mechanic right away.
Q: I hear weird sounds or knocking coming from my engine. Am I in trouble?
A: When you hear a “weird” noise or knocking coming from your engine, it is typically a sign that you may have a minor mechanical failure or that one of your rods could be malfunctioning. The only way to truly distinguish the cause and nature of those sounds, we recommend bringing your car in for a diagnostic.
