Gas vs. Hybrid vs. Electric Cars – INFOGRAPHIC

The Internal Combustion Engine Briefly Explained

Since the birth of automobiles in 1886, cars have since utilized the internal combustion engine to move. Thanks to the internal combustion engine, we have significantly improved on developing more powerful and efficient models to power all vehicle types. Given that many of us are drive cars with combustion engines, we all have a basic understanding of how our cars function. In order to generate movement, we rely on chemical processes that burn fuel and release energy. As the engine ignites, the energy is then used to propel your engine’s cylinders and pistons. After the pistons are pushed, your crankshaft turns, your gears are powered, and this propels your car forward.

The Innovations of Combustion

While there are many variations of the combustion engine, each variation produces combustion differently. Regardless if you currently drive a four-stroke engine or are powered by diesel, these systems have greatly improved with the advancement of time and technology. Since the birth of the first engines, plenty of innovations have been made to improve them. Many internal combustion engines made today, produce fewer pollutants, have been designed to increase fuel efficiency, and better horsepower. Though there have been many new improvements to the traditional combustion engine, some car manufacturers have completely rethought the process entirely.

The New Standard

As mentioned earlier, innovations in cars have come a long way since their inception. While many have simply mastered the combustion engine, others sought to redefine it. Due to rising controversies and studies implicating the rise in environmental damage, public interest and sentiment are now championing the development of cars towards more environmentally and wallet-friendly vehicles. Hybrid and electric cars are more common on the roads but what’s the big deal and why do people choose those over a normal car?  Is it purely for sustainability? Is it true that electric-powered vehicles are faster and stronger than traditional engines? Are these newer vehicles worth the dollar spend and hype? Which is better? Find out what the differences are below.
